It should already be recorded with the miss data (absorbs are misses) but I realize there may be a glitch in the current code. I'll do some testing.
Recount won't ever treat misses as damage taken though. There is a clear canonical definition of damage taken this violates, aside from the fact that it collides with known game mechanics (Pala bubble for example, or other damage neutral shields). As for DPS I'm open to a vote to completely remove it from Recount ![]() |

I think a "Damage done to Shields" would be great for regular recount. It's going to be really interesting when we get to deathwhisper and she's shielded entire first phase. that and twins are perfect examples of fights where dps matters to shields, but cannot currently be monitored.

RecountGuessedAbsorbs provides the data, and it can also be seen in the miss stats details (modulo an incoming fix).
Recount is a generic combat analysis tool, not a boss mod. Really boss specific stuff is better placed with boss mods or encounter specific addons. Blizz does mess with mechanics in boss fights. A combat analysis tool isn't the place to try to resolve the specifics or even contradictions they produce at times. And I certainly won't try. Blizz is especially funny about shield-like mechanisms. Ultimately the combat log does plainly not define what happens when a shield gets hit. Shields may be permanent, time based, absorb a set amount of damage etc. They may be linked to any number of mechanisms (drain, increase mana, heal, redirect damage to another target, etc etc). I strongly believe that a solid generic combat analysis program should _NOT_ impose any one of these possible options as likely. Hence it should just reflect that can be said and that is that damage gets absorbed and is treated as a miss for damage purposes (i.e. no health got lost). I intend to reflect exactly that property in Recount, and in fact it already does. I will never ever merge damage to an absorb mechanism with damage that incurs loss of health. For exactly the same reason why I won't do that for heals and absorbs. Plainly these are separate mechanisms and should be represented as such. So it will never make it to core in any merged form, no matter how many boss encounters use shields in this way, especially as long as other shield mechanisms (such as timed, or permanent, or event based shields) are in game. I think that's pretty much all I want to say on the topic. |
