Default gear score evaluation similar to http://armorylite.com

Hello,

my idea is a addon that displays a gear score value similar to http://armorylite.com.

I know there a few addons available, each with its own system to evaluate and calculate a individual score for an item or player. but what I didn't see so far is an addon that does this as effective and simple as armorylite does.

DoS one of the developers says the calculation is done like this:

Quote:
Every slot (sans shirt and tabard) are assigned a single value. These values are then totaled to create the overall score.

The slot value is first based on item iLvl. So assuming our slot is valued at 100 iLvl, we start off with 100.

Then, we modify the iLvl by item quality. The modifiers are:

Legendary - * 1.5
Epic - * 1
Blue - * 0.75
Green - * 0.5
Grey/White - * 0.25

Now, if the item happens to be a 2handed weapon, we multiple the adjusted value by 1.75

We repeat this process for gems in the gear - however the final value for gems are multiplied by 0.35 and then added to the slot value.
it would be cool to see an addon that displays a comprehensive but also individual score for all the players you view via "inspect" and also on your own character screen so you can instantly judge how much your gear quality changes if replaced with another item

I know that armorylite's score does not include individual item stats but I think it is the best and safest way to get a quick opinion on how somebody else is doing equip wise

thaks for reading and please let me know what you think about it

cheers
~Bernd

Actually, I've always liked systems like this... but most people will cry that ilvl isn't a good value to use and such. Basically they want to boil it down to the exact stats. If you're going to compare two different people there's really only two things you need to know...

* General ilvl values
* They are wearing gear appropriate to their spec

In short... I like the idea, I hate the "theorycrafting" approaches to comparing items.... but I never inspect people so I have no reason to write your addon :P

InventoryOnPar has been doing this for a while now as well.

i'm currently using ItemValue, but would like to see use something simpler. maybe something that integrates both ilvl and stat preference, but keep it simple.

1. give a large majority of the weight to ilvl
2. let the user define an order of descending stat preference (without actually making the user plugin specific values). give less weight to these stats than ilvl, and less and less depending on where they are in the order. this would help with the talent spec side of things.
3. show a simple score in character and inspect frames based on the above (not something i myself really need to see, but seems to be a popular feature).
4. show in equipment tooltips if the item is simply an upgrade or not based on the above. don't display specific values, and let the user decide if the item is worth the upgrade.
5. and optionally show ilvl for equipment (only) tooltips.

replying to myself i think i have a much simpler solution.

1. don't give weight to stats at all, but still let the user define their preferred stats.
2. color code ilvl in equipment tooltips:
*green - ilvl is greater than your currently equipped item AND has atleast two of you preferred stats
*yellow (or w/e color it is RB uses) - item has only one (items with only +healing on them for example), or none of your preferred stats.
*red - item has atleast two of your preferred stats, but ilvl is lower than currently equipped (although a red value might not really be necessary)
or something to that effect. typically you would only be interested in items with ilvl colored green.
3. show simple total ilvl value in character and inspect frames.

FuBar_GearRating does almost that. It displays the value on a FuBar. You can find more info here. Of course, I'm not biased towards that addon at all

As soon as you start allowing users to give preferences to stats, you lose all hope of creating a standard that is widely accepted (because every user has different settings).

If you want to know if a certain item is an upgrade for you, use RatingBuster.

i've used RB in the past, and it did way more than i wanted. all i wanted to know if was an item was an upgrade or not dependent on stats i preferred, so started using itemvalue.

hehe, I mostly use inspect with my guildies and friends, but sometime "strangers" as I am a rather curious type of person

a few thoughts about all the other addons mentioned...InventoryonPar is to complicated to use in my opinion, too much information. I am looking for something quick, rather effortless to get a quick evaluation

I think IQ is coming closest to what I wanted my addon idea to look like, I think I'll give it a try! thanks Kunda!

Only time I use inspect is when I want to know "What is that weird ass staff that looks like it wants to tentacle-rape my face"... or after the fact with a bad PUG, "Why did that warrior take damage so fast?" (which I don't really do much anymore).

Actually, I noticed a nice simple view on wowdb that could work without taking things to the complexity of RB (or, to be more specific, regressing back to RB's initial functionality). It simply adds into the compare tip:

If you equip this item you will gain: 3 Int, 5 Healing
You will lose: 2 Spi, 12 Stam

Ah... but RatingsBuster discussions belong in a different thread really.
