Hi there,
Following the discussion in this thread, I have released an alpha version of DynPerf. You can find it on its project page. In short, DynPerf manages your video settings so you get the highest quality where your hardware supports it and the highest frame rate where you hardware struggles. Project page : http://www.wowace.com/projects/dynperf/

I noticed on Loatheb25 last night that it wasn't going lower than 20% even though my framerate was well below the target rate. Seems odd since I've definitely seen it go as low as 0% at other times.

I have had 2 WoW client crashes since trying this out (generic crash with no specific erro messages to go with it)... Have never seen this before, as any other WoW client crash has had an error to go with it (the memory "read" error, for example). I believe both times it happened, I was travelling along on a flight path. I'm not saying DynPerf is the cause yet, but just thought I'd throw it out there so someone else may be able to try and confirm if they notice the same behavior. This is on a WinXP Pro OS, so no Wine involved in this case (since I saw mention of possibly instability on the project page under Wine).
On a positive note, I had played around with DynamicPerformance a little prior to this, and it seemed to cause more stuttering while it was lowering settings to try and hit the desired FPS mark than would have happened without it running in the first place. So far, DynPerf seems to be handling those transitions a lot smoother. |

@HunterZ: in instance, spell effect and farclip will not go under 5 and 1600. The first is necessary to see ground spell effects. The second is more intended for battleground IIRC. I may change this.
@MegaManJuno: I had similar crashes too. I think it is related to changing farclip to often. I may (or add an option to) disable this cvar.

I was considering using it only in arena/battleground.
Moreover, I think I will add an option to disable farclip updates. Even if it is the parameter that have an heavy effect outdoors, it seems to create disk (and I guess memory) stress and thus to create some instability.

Can you list which cvars are being changed by DynPerf?
