I've seen a few UI compilation pics that had their chat box's and action bars in a square box( that part I figured out)...but I see in the pics that the box's were glossy...how is that done?

That Ui looks like it uses Discord... But the chat frames get skinned anyhow with Skinner, and you get the bottom/top frames, then you have to enable the middle frames - you can then resize/drag them. It's all in the options.

Actually, those screenshots look like he just took the gloss overlay texture from the cyCircled skin and stretched it over the minimap etc. You could probably do it pretty easily with an eePanel or something...

I shall try it with eepanel. I have seen this done on a lot of UI comp. and I think it looks really kool.
